Artist Statement
Ann Cofta is a visual artist who uses an extended range of media, including drawing, embroidery, cut paper, beadwork, bookmaking and printmaking. Her most recent series includes tiny, hand-pieced works that employ traditional sewing and beading techniques. These embroidered textiles are modified representations of larger objects; often iconic structures, such as bridges and buildings, and more recently retro objects like manual typewriters and rotary phones. They reference a sense of nostalgia, and speak to memories that reveal our universal interconnectedness.
