Jessica Perelman is a Brooklyn based artist fascinated with all things craft and decorative. She views thrift store figurines, souvenir plate collections and the use of plastic plants to create a sense of home and place against the backdrop of the history of craft-based art education for the emerging middle-class women of the 19th century. Using that intersection she creates work that exists between the decorative, the souvenir and that become an intimate memorial to our humanness. Her use of pattern and form bucks against the expected allowing for new associations.
