520 Kingsland Ave.
A Greenpoint Community Environmental Fund (GCEF) project committed to expanding natural habitat and green corridors for bird and wildlife populations, with a green wildflower rooftop.
The Sensorium is a collaborative installation of a life-sized, up-cycled scrap fabric birdhouse at Kingsland Wildflowers where visitors will be invited to sit inside and rest, listening to a beautiful song scape composed by Alap Momin using birdsong recorded on the rooftop. The installation was made with denim scraps collected from local designer, Merica Lee and Greenpoint-based shop, Loren Denim. Several artists put in work including bird eye paintings by local painter Diego Sanchez-Maitret, material dyed with flowers from the rooftop by natural dyer Cara Piazza, textile artists María del Mar Lugo, the Herban Cura Collective, and many more folks contributed textiles and embroidery. The piece echos the very idea of the rooftop itself—preserving available material/space to create or transform into sanctuary or wildlife habitat within our community.
